House gutted, woman injured

A KERANG woman suffered serious burns and lacerations to her body when she fled her burning home on Saturday.

Firefighters were called to the Andrew Street single-story weatherboard home shortly before 2.30am to find it engulfed by flames.

Kerang Fire Brigade captain, Ramon Steel said the woman smashed a window to escape.

“She suffered burns and cuts as a result of her quick thinking actions which saved her life,” he said.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition with burns to her upper body and cuts to her hands and feet.

It took firefighters 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

“Her neighbours must be praised for attending to her injuries as they awaited an ambulance,” Mr Steel said.

It’s believed her partner and his four children were away camping when the incident occurred.

An electrical fault is being blamed for starting the fire.
