Time to scrap fishing

I WISH to announce via your pages that I am seeking expressions of interest in the formation of the “Coalition Against Fishing”.

Surely this barbarous, cruel activity should be, in these times of enlightenment, scrapped.

Surely these poor, dumb, harmless creatures deserve a better fate than having their lives snuffed out by the use of enticement (burley and live harmless worms) hanging on steel hooks with sharpened barbs. Should be classed as utter cruelty in its worst form.

And the people who aid and abet this activity, such as: rod and reel makers, makers of camping gear, aluminium boats, and all the accessories.

If you desire to partake in sampling these poor, harmless, beautiful creatures, surely any supermarket has a counter for the sales of frozen fish, or shelves of John West products.

Or, alternatively, visit a fish and chip shop.

Let’s band together and rid our waterways of these pests, the (sporting?) fishermen.

Sound ludicrous? Is this any more ludicrous than the continual rants against duck hunting? I wonder.

Neil Gannon,

Kerang
