In the market for more fun

THE cancellation of Kerang’s June Community Market has opened the door for the family fun day to be held this weekend in Murrabit.

Due to the poor weather conditions, Kerang’s monthly market was cancelled because of safety concerns surrounding the slippery conditions.

Instead, the event is at Murrabit Country Market on Saturday, July 1, again supported by Northern District Community Health.

While rain cancelled last Saturday’s event, Cohuna’s Sunday family fun day was a resounding success.

Cohuna Farmers and Makers Market committee member Sarah Mostyn said the day had lived up to the description.

“Cohuna families and visitors had a great time enjoying the activities at the family fun day,” she said.

“It was a great addition to our market day, and provided hours of entertainment.”

“It was wonderful to see the Garden Park so full of fun. The Cohuna Farmers & Makers Market committee would like to thank NDCH for putting on a fabulous event.”

The event has been funded by NDCH with the support of VicHealth and aimed to promote fun physical activities to get children moving.

NDCH health promotion worker Rachel Clarke said Cohuna’s family fun day had impressed visitors and store holders.

“It was an impressive turnout, with many of the stall holders commenting they’d like the family fun day to come back each month,” she said.

“Liv the face painter did a record number of faces, and we had families come from Swan Hill, Kerang, and Koondrook.

“The Cohuna Farmers and Makers market are going to look into purchasing some pop-up outdoor games for future markets.

“It is fantastic that the community are supporting children and young people to be active in a diverse range of ways, that are not your traditional structured sports.”

While the success of the event was noted by NDCH, they have said any plans to bring them back to the region relies on future funding.

Families will still have the chance to take part in the active fun at Murrabit this weekend as NDCH will bring the rock-climbing wall, mini golf, table tennis, connect 4 and face painting.

The event is free to attend and will run during the market from 8:30am to 12:30pm.
