EARLY morning in Kerang last week, Allan Williams from the shire and workmate Bridget Boyd were clearing leaves from the footpath in Victoria Street.

It is autumn, after all, so there were plenty.

Of course, Bridget didn’t want to be in the photo, so she took off and left it all to Allen.

Traders and customers wouldn’t have had a clue the work you’d done that morning.

Adam Clapham was up the street a bit further doing the same thing.

Wonderful job, folks, and great to see you up and about so early.

Many local farmers were going flat out trying to scratch in a bit of seed before the rain a couple of weeks ago. Most received about 8mm, which basically just stopped them for a while. Some over Boort way got a bit more.

Let’s just hope that we get a decent rainfall once the seed is in the ground.

The order is in.

The Gannawarra Times (previously Northern Times) have had many wonderful journalists through the building over time.

One that not too many will remember is Jen Kelly who now is doing “A Place In The Sun”, which was started by Keith Dunstan way back when.

Jen wasn’t in Kerang for long but seems to be doing okay for herself.

It is the nature of the beast that small country newspapers have traditionally given a start to some brilliant journos.

Funny, but it’s a pity the medical industry didn’t work the same for doctors.

Kerang Primary School principal Brenton Taylor is very keen on his draught horses, or Clydesdales. So much so that he and his son have cultivated about three acres at their property at Echuca, with the plough being horse-drawn.

Now that’s pretty keen there, Brenton.

I’m sure the horses enjoyed it as much as you did.

Nev and Michelle Miller who own the ag supplies business in Pyramid Hill and Kerang were noticed in town last Thursday evening, partaking of a meal at one of the local hotels.

Nev mentioned that the only time he ever sees me is in a pub. Funny, Nev, that’s where I mostly see you as well.

So Woorinen knocked off the Cohuna Kangas the other week. Bricky will have to knuckle down and get the boys fired up for the second half of the year. A few injuries may have cost the Kangas, is that right, Bricky?

Woorinen have been up there for a while and look like the team to beat at the moment.

The word is that Peter Bannan’s 30th birthday party was a ripper, held down in Melbourne.

A couple of workmates from Swan Hill made the trip down and hopefully they didn’t play up too much.

It would be expected that Pete did though.

The old fella wanted to thank all those in Cohuna, Kerang and Swan Hill for their messages this week.
