Kids hit the airwaves

COHUNA Garden Park was a radio studio on Friday morning, when two breakfast shows went to air for outside broadcasts.

Mixx FM’s The Morning Crew, hosted by Gabi and Dan, and 3SH’s The Morning Rush featuring Sean, Monkey and Niamh, were on hand to give some locals the chance to be part of the shows.

More than 550,000 people were potentially being reached as The Morning Crew was broadcast to seven stations throughout regional Victoria and NSW.

The Morning Crew co-host Dan Robinson said they were touring the area at the invitation of the Gannawarrra Shire and had been around the area for a few days.

“It’s been a lot of fun exploring the Gannawarra, we have been at Koondrook, Kerang and here in Cohuna,” Mr Robinson said.

“It has also been great broadcasting. The kids have made it great, and they are excited and love being able to talk on the radio for a few minutes.”

On-air partner Gabi James said it was lovely seeing the magic for the children as they realise what radio is.

“This is also such a great area for those that love the outdoors with so many events on in the area,” Ms James said.

“This weekend we have the Cohuna Show happening and the Kerang races coming up at Easter.

“There are always events then you also have golf, fishing, camping, kayaking and markets on.

“It has been good to be able to encourage people to visit and maybe even move here.”

Mr Robinson said that with the wide coverage they were hoping to spread the good word about the Gannawarra Shire and the activities coming up, as well as the jobs and potential living opportunities in the region.

Gannawarrra Shire chief executive Geoff Rollinson said it was part of the Gannawarra flood recovery effort.

“It is important for our community to come back together again and to promote the region as a whole,” Mr Rollinson said.

“There is a lot to celebrate, we have Easter coming up with things happening, in Quambatook with the tractor pull, we have the Kerang races and we have the Kerang art show.

“Of course there is the Gunbower Island, I mean what a place, it is just magnificent.

“This is a way to reach well beyond our borders getting that information out about work, rest and play.”
