Building connections, character

AS we settle into 2024, the students and staff at Kerang Christian College have been challenged to build on their connections as well as their character.

Connection is an important concept for both staff and students at KCC.

Building and strengthening the connections between students as well as between students and their teachers ensures everyone feels supported and encouraged as they strive to meet their personal goals.

An essential aspect of connection is feeling known. At KCC the small class sizes as well as the many opportunities for students across year levels to work and play means each student is acknowledged and seen as a loved child of God.

In the Bible, in Romans 12, it says: “Be devoted to one another, honour one another…live in harmony with one another” and that is what staff strive to instill in their students; to get along and care for one another.

The other challenge is for everyone at KCC to consider their character.

Abraham Lincoln once said: “Good character is doing the right thing because it is right to do what is right”.

Therefore, KCC want to encourage our college community to do what is right even when no one else is watching; that creates good character.

Each morning as the KCC students get ready for the day ahead – getting dressed, eating breakfast, cleaning their teeth – whatever it may be, they are being encouraged to also get prepared on the inside.

Students are encouraged to consider the many virtues that the Bible talks about including kindness, compassion, patience and humility, and to apply these to their day, to make the decision to be a good friend and to live in harmony.

“We all have a choice in how we approach each day,” Principal Lance Davidson told the students recently.

“We can look for the good in the day we are living, or we can be dragged down by things that don’t seem to go our way.”

Mr Davidson and his staff will be at the college’s upcoming open day and encourage anyone investigating schooling options for their child to come along and discuss the aims of the college

The open day will be on Wednesday, March 20 from 4.30pm until 6.30pm. People wishing to attend are encouraged to book by calling the Kerang Christian College office on 5450 3894.
