Music, barbecues and family fun

EVENTS planned during the Easter and April holiday periods will share in more than $40,000 of Gannawarra flood recovery funding.

As part of the Gannawarra’s recovery from the 2022 floods and the 2023/2024 storm events, community groups, organisations and local live music venues were invited to apply for up to $5000 to support new and existing events, programs, and activities.

Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said it became a popular funding opportunity, with more than $55,000 worth of events and activities submitted.

“While not all events could be funded to the full amount applied for, the successful applications will help support Gannawarra residents to connect and provide a unique point of difference to attract visitors to the Gannawarra over the upcoming holiday periods,” Mr Rollinson said.

Events that will benefit from funding include traditional Easter long weekend highlights, such as the Quambatook Tractor Pull, Murrabit Country Market, Kerang Easter tennis tournament, and Kerang Turf Club Easter Saturday race meet, as well as activities planned for the school holidays and ANZAC Day.

“It is fantastic to see community groups think creatively to develop event and program proposals that will benefit people of all ages and help bring people to Gannawarra,” Mr Rollinson said.

“Live music venues were also eligible to apply for music events as part of the State and Commonwealth funded flood recovery program to add to the entertainment on offer in Gannawarra across the Easter long weekend.
