TWELVE ladies entered Wednesday’s Stableford competition in very cool conditions after the previous day’s fierce wind and rain.

One of our dual members from Lakeside, Mandy Ackland, won the day with 35 points, from evergreen Rhonda Willoughby on 34.

Others in the ball pool were Meagan Taylor and Deanne Free with 33. Nearest the pin on the 9th went to Joyce Boyd.

With the cooler weather, 28 members entered the R&R Stableford event on Thursday.

The winner was Kevin Lane, with a sizzling score of 43, to leave the field well behind.

Ball pool went to P. Lloyd 40, C. Waterson 39, G. McNeil and K. Chase 37.

Captain Jack won the coveted pen award.

NTP went to 3rd B. McDougall, 5th T. Hall, 9th G. McNeil, 13th K. Lane and 16th C. Waterson.

A very strong field of male and female golfers (22 pairs) entered Saturday’s Water Partners 4BBB Stableford competition, with Mandy Ackland and Deanne Free winning the ladies section with 46 points.

In the men’s section, Martin Kelly and Ronald Dillon were the winners with 47 points.

Other scores were T. Laughlin/J. Pay 45, C. Gray/B. Shay 44, S. Worner/K. Chase and J. Hewitt/M. Wilson 43 and J. Waterson/J. Harry 41.

Murray Downs defeated Kerang 5/2 in Pennant.

Kerang will play at Rich River West Course at 11.30am on Sunday.


Veterans

FORTY veteran golfers braved the heat at Barham for the first veterans Stableford event for the year last Tuesday.

Thank you for the help of the staff, the condition of the course and the supply of ice water on the course so that us old golfers did not dehydrate.

And we finished before the wild weather arrived.

Ladies A Grade winner was Lisa Hyne with 38 points and runner-up on 36 points was Jenny Lynas.

B Grade winner with 32 points was Kerry Gammon and runner-up on a countback was Nola Robinson.

Men’s A Grade winner was John Manser 38 points, while runner-up was Rick McKenzie on 36 points.

Men’s B Grade winner with 33 points was Graeme Bray and runner-up was Kevin Chase on 32 points.

Nearest to pins were Jenny Lynas, Nola Robinson, Marg Learmonth, Geraldine Kennedy (nearly a hole-in-one), Dennis Pretty, John Manser, Ian Dodd and Rick McKenzie.

Ball pool: Ruth McAlister, Marg Learmonth, Joan Hobbs, Joyce Boyd, Kevin Lane, Ken Jones, Ray Power, Col Wilkie and David Wilkinson.

The next veterans’ event is at Kerang on Tuesday, March 12, 8.30am assembly for 9am start. AGM to follow.

A good attendance would be great. You won’t get a job unless you raise your hand. Don’t forget to bring your own lunch.
