Rushton roars for Tigers

WOORINEN have piled on the runs in their match against Wandella, led by a Darren Rushton innings of 94 in the 129-run win.

Rushton smashed 11 fours and four sixes in his 72-ball innings, racking up the runs at a strike rate of more than 130, to help the Tigers post 255.

Woorinen’s innings didn’t start as planned, falling to 1/4 after Bombers skipper Ryan Barnes dismissed Jackson Hughes for a duck nine balls in.

But after the wicket of Dean Morpeth left the Tigers at 2/19, Rushton and Mitchell Uhlhorn combined for a 101-run partnership.

Uhlhorn provided 27 runs to the partnership before being dismissed by Bohden McKnight, but the onslaught of runs continued.

Cooper Fox put the pedal to the metal and scored a quickfire 45.

Boundaries accounted for 40 of them – the big hitter smashed four sixes and four fours in just 25 balls.

As the Bombers looked to chase the mammoth total, Rushton again proved dangerous – this time with ball in hand – taking two wickets in his nine overs.

Robert Rush was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/23, while Gurmander Singh also claimed two wickets.

Wandella’s top order floundered, the innings looking grim at 8/49 before late runs helped regain some pride.

Young Wandella gun Flynn McKnight showed his prowess, making an unbeaten 53 late, which included eight fours and a six.

McKnight and his skipper Ryan Barnes put together a 77-run partnership, before Barnes was caught by Gurmander Singh off the bowling of Stefan Mangiameli.
