Road repair delay anger
A FED up local has expressed their anger by spray painting a blunt message to road authorities on a pot-hole-riddled road near Leitchville.
In large green letters on the Leitchville-Kerang Road, near Barkmeyers Road, the mystery motorist demanded that someone “F#@*%@g fix me”.

New northern jetty open at Kangaroo Lake
THE NORTHEN end of Kangaroo Lake has received a new fixed jetty after the previous structure was removed for safety reasons.
The previous jetty had been a concern for council after damaging winds hit the structure over the 2020 Easter period.

Barley growers count the community cost of tariffs
QUAMBATOOK farmer and former VFF grains group president Brett Hosking says it’s great news the Chinese Government has withdrawn tariffs from Australian-grown barley, but estimates the impact of the 80 per cent tariffs has cost growers about $50 per tonne during the time they were in force.

Repairs to flood damaged roads in fast lane
WORK has begun to repair more Gannawarra Shire roads damaged in last year’s floods.
The roads at Macorna, Macorna North, McMillans, Mincha West and Tragowel form part of the second of 12 council-developed works packages, supported by joint Commonwealth and State Government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

It’s a bridge too far as Cohuna event goes into recess
THERE will be no Cohuna Bridge to Bridge next year after the long-running event failed to attract new volunteers.
The annual charity event celebrated its 30th anniversary this year and attracted hundreds of people to its foot and cycling legs.

Hit looks likely for duck hunting
DUCK hunting could be banned in Victoria as early as next year, according to reports.
The reports suggest a parliamentary inquiry is set to recommend a total ban on recreational duck hunting in 2024.

Characters add colour to Kerang streets
THE flash of red and blue lights and the whoop of a police siren marked the start of the annual Kerang Book Week parade.
Local schoolchildren gathered at Kerang Primary School and, with their police escort, began the walk through the central business district, where the streets were lined with parents, carers, friends and a few interested tourists.

Change of control at SES unit
THERE has been a change of leadership at Kerang’s Victorian State Emergency Service unit, with Mark Gardiner taking over the reins from Glyndia Gee as controller after her five-and-a-half years in the role.
Ms Gee has amassed 25 years’ service to the Kerang SES unit and has been awarded a life membership of the unit, in addition to a National Medal and the Medal of the Order of Australia for her community work.
