Kerang’s Victoria Square was busy on Thursday morning with Gannawarra Shire Council holding its first pop up information session on the draft Kerang Active Recreation Corridor Masterplan.
Gannawarra Shire mayor Ross Stanton said that it was great to see representatives from many of the groups that use Atkinson Park, Kerang Regional Park, Riverside Park and the Sir John Gorton Precinct visit the session.
“This opportunity enabled those who use these popular facilities to discuss the planned improvements outlined in the draft masterplan and other suggestions that can enhance these locations,” Cr Stanton said.
“Council encourages residents to visit www.gsc.vic.gov.au/KerangCorridor and have their say on the draft masterplan, with feedback accepted up to 5pm, Tuesday, December 19.”
Gannawarra Shire director of community wellbeing Paul Fernee said he was really pleased with the big turnout.
“There have been lots of different perspectives and, I think, when you are looking at an area that covers four different precincts there are many different user groups and lots of perception,” Mr Fernee said.
“We did work with a lot of user groups and had community consultation sessions in March this year to try and frame where we are with this draft.
“It’s come a long way but we are looking for any feedback over the next four week period.”
Deputy Mayor Charlie Gillingham also attended the pop up session.
“We have had different clubs attend and give their point of view,” he said. “There are a lot of pro-active clubs out there that are looking to enhance their sporting facilities.
“This is a long term project with some of these developments 10 to 15 years away, but we need to start planning for them now.”
Councillor Travis Collier said that the response has been very positive so far, and there have been some good discussions with the Kerang Cricket Club, for example.
“Initially we spoke to sporting clubs about some ideas, and now we would like the public to speak up about what they are after,” he said.
