Happy with learning and care

PROVIDING high-quality and progressive education is the purpose of Cohuna Consolidated School.

Principal Valerie Lobry said the school had a warm, caring and supportive environment where children felt happy, safe and relaxed while learning.

“Our teachers are committed to providing the best education to ensure that the children in their care develop the desire and ability to learn at their individual levels as well as learn respect and empathy for others,” Ms Lobry said.

The school runs a number of programs to support student engagement and wellbeing. These include the Buddy Program, a lunchtime choir and The Resilience Project, designed to develop empathy, mindfulness and gratitude.

“We also offer a breakfast program and a range of fun whole school activities planned by our junior school council, including Crazy Hair Day, Milo cup days and fundraisers,” Ms Lobry said.

“Cohuna Consolidated takes pride in the curriculum program it provides.

“There is a strong academic focus on literacy and numeracy while providing quality learning programs in all curriculum areas including specialist areas such as Art, Music, Physical Education, ICT and languages (French).

“We also offer a reading recovery program, a tutoring program and small group tuition through the inclusion program.

“There are many opportunities for extracurricular activities for students at Cohuna Consolidated.

“For example, in the past year, we have held the Song Room Program and also a one-week residential workshop culminating in a joint dance concert with other schools.

“We offer a comprehensive excursion program at each year level which is carefully integrated into the curriculum. This year, our Grades 5 and 6 students are looking forward to their Canberra camp and our Grades 3 and 4 are excited to go to Melbourne for their own camp.

“There are opportunities for leadership roles including junior school council, house captains and public speaking.”

School captains and vice-captains lead weekly assemblies and represent the school on key dates such as Anzac Day, open day and other events throughout the year.

The school offers extensive sporting programs including athletics, cross country, swimming and sports clinics such as ultimate frisbee or hockey clinics.

Ms Lobry said student learning at Cohuna Consolidated was supported with excellent resources, inclusive facilities and a spacious, well-maintained playground.

“Our team of teachers and education support staff is ably supported by an enthusiastic school council, parents’ club and wider community,” she said.

“If you would like to learn more about our wonderful school, you are most welcome to visit us, take a tour of our school and see classrooms in action.”
