Across the Greens – Kerang Golf

THE beautiful autumn weather continues and playing bowls in these conditions has become very popular. Our Thursday social bowls attracted 25 players playing two games of three-bowl triples.

At the completion, there were three combinations who won both their games. With a 16-shot margin, Jim McLeish, Noel Robertson and Wayne “Tige” Neville came out winners, just in front of Carol Pay, Allison Medson and Rosie Laughlin, who won their games by 11 shots.

Close behind was the team of Howard McClelland, Neil Paul and Ken Pay with 10 shots up. An eight scored on their last end got them their second win and caused much displeasure for the retired shoe salesman. Encouragement chocolates to Marlene Orr, Rob “Curly” Curtis and John Murphy.

Another good turn-out for Sunday bowls, again in glorious autumn weather, with 16 players having a game of three-bowl pairs.

We welcomed our caravan visitors from Western Australia, Trevor and Lyn, who enjoyed a few days golfing and bowling at Kerang Golf.

Playing three games of six ends was another enjoyable afternoon and at the completion, there was only one combination that won all their games.

Mick Pors and Rob Malseed played the best draw bowls to win the major prize, with Jimmy McLeish and Craig Hicks the best of the two-game winners and runners-up. Third place to Laurie Gray and Kevin Chase. The much “sought after” encouragement award to Bryce McLeish and Joycey Tuohey.

A reminder to all members and visitors, social bowls will continue on Thursdays and Sundays over the “off-season” with registration at 12.45pm and bowls at 1pm.
