Worth a few ales

A local horse trainer had a pretty good win at the Echuca races the other week with Community Art. Paying $28, the result kept some beer money in the pockets of a few local punters.

It’s the second win in Echuca for Community Art who was way to classy for the $1.40 favourite that couldn’t even place.

Nice Dorse.

There was a bit of a to-do in the Sporties following Round 2 of the AFL.

North Melbourne supporter Chum, was being a bit more vocal than the regulars Donny Ross and Geoff Pay thought he should be.

Thing is, Don’s team Richmond only drew with Carlton and then beat the Crows, but we have to admit that Geoff’s team, the Pies, aren’t doing too much wrong at the moment.

Round 3 sees North take on Hawthorn, and Chum was spruiking that after round 3 they will be on top.

Sorry, but I didn’t happen to see who won on the weekend.

It’s funny! I only every see Sheree Sutherland down the street when she is chatting to friends. Makes me wonder if she ever does anything else.

Then again, Sheree only ever sees me walking the street and surely wonders if I ever do anything else.

What’s the best way to tell if a dad has all girls? – Check to see if his toenails are painted. Great job Josh Robinson.

Also a wonderful job on the recent modelling. Is that a new career Josh? – Modelling, farming. Reckon I know what his choice would be

The Central Murray footy gets under way this Friday (Good Friday) with Cohuna playing Woorinen in Cohuna being the only game played. Should be a pretty big crowd.

The rest of Round 1 will be completed the following weekend, April 15

The six teams in the Golden Rivers league also kick off on April 15.

For the first time in a long time it looks as though Moulamein will start the year as favourites.

Ultima have recruited pretty well also and Wandella should also be a final four team.

Hay should be filling up the final four and there hasn’t been too much about Macorna and Murrabit.

Loddon Valley league team Pyramid Hill have recruited pretty well according to all the rumours, picking up Tom and Darcy Hetherington from Murrabit, among others. They are chasing their first flag and should be well up there this season.

Word is that Marong have also gained a few so it will be a tough task to take the title from them.

A few former Wandella lads have jumped on board the Maiden Gully YCW list and will finish middle of the road, sneaking up a spot or two from last season.

All the leagues’ have been comprehensively covered in the 2023 Football Preview. Hope that everyone has got their copy.

Get your copy in today’s Gannawarra Times.

Last word on cricket. The Indian test wickets have been very ‘spin’ friendly, yet they have the capability to prepare excellent batting wickets as shown in the IPL.

The ICC should consider having neutral curators for every test. That’d surely fix it.

Happy Easter to all.
