After an interval of 43 years, Cohuna Bowling Club broke their long time finals hoodoo with a two-shot victory in Saturday’s grand final.
The win was by no means cut and dried, as Cohuna Golf led throughout the match, only surrendering the lead in the last few ends. Golf were helped enormously by the 12-shot victory of Harrison Keely’s rink, which counterbalanced losing totals elsewhere. Eventually strong performances by the teams skipped by Brian Bowles (+8) and Frank Tonn (+6) got Cohuna home by the slenderest of margins, the large crowd being in fine voice in support of both sides.
Cohuna have now won the right to play for regional honours, to be conducted on March 19 at a venue yet to be decided. With their never say die approach they will hopefully win there, and go on to State Pennant level, later in May.

Divisions 2 and 3 both went the way of pre-game favourites, although not without a battle. Kerang won one rink and tied another in the twos, but could not contain the power of the Bagg rink, which swept to a 23-shot victory over Lindsay Hein. A good solid performance all year, and players produced their best form at the right stage of the season

It was a similar result in Division 3, where Garry Wishart’s rink carried the day. Kerang fought the game right out, with Helen McBain recording a fine win, and Jo Adams forcing her match to a draw. The majority of shots were in Barham’s favour, however, with the final margin being 21 shots to the good.
Well done to Kerang in staging the day, and to all who umpired, manned score-boards or generally helped out to make the day so successful.
