SHDCA – Wandella

IN the Swan Hill District Cricket Association, Wandella recorded a massive victory in the context of their season.

With RSL nipping at their heels and ready to pounce on their spot in the four, the Bombers calmly navigated a tricky chase to deliver a dagger blow to a big rival.

They didn’t have it all their own way, with RSL posting a competitive 8/177 on the back of a brilliant knock from Paul Munro (114 not out).

The McKnight boys were the standouts with the ball as Boden (3/30 off nine overs) and Ethan (4/35 off 11), ensuring the Blues’ total didn’t blow out.

After Patrick Oliver went out for a duck, Luke Murray provided the guiding influence, scoring 61 not out to drag his side over the line.

Laine Gibbons supported him well at the top of the order, hitting a run-a-ball 40.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing – when Ryan Barnes departed for 11, the Bombers still required 43 runs with only three wickets in hand.

The steady hand of Rohan Oliver wouldn’t let the Bombers slip up, though, as he hit 28 not out in an innings vital to the Bombers’ finals aspirations.

Needing 10 to win off the final over a first-ball four from Oliver from the bowling of Brenton Caldwell (1/45 off 9.5) put the pressure back on the Blues.

A set of byes in the next few balls ensured the six points went to the boys from Wandella.
