THIS year’s annual Kerang High School reunion will be a reunion in itself after a two-year hiatus.
The Melbourne luncheon, first held in 1939, will make a triumphant return on October 26 at the Victoria Hotel on Little Collins Street.
There were fears that the 2019 edition, which was the 80th anniversary, would be the last, but a large turnout then proved there was appetite for the social outing.
One of the organisers, Glennis Vanderwarker, said more than 60 people were expected to attend.
“There will be a lot of new ones which is great,” she said.
“This is why a few of us wanted to keep it going after they were going to finish it off, which was just such a shame.”
The memories shared between guests was priceless, according to Ms Vanderwarker.
“I think when people get together after such a long time, there are lots of happy memories which is what we all need at the moment,” she said.
“There is just an incredible buzz and people get excited about it.
“It brought it home to me how special it was growing up in Kerang and with the memories Facebook page.
“I’ve got friends here in Melbourne and when we go away on weekends, every single time, it didn’t matter where we went, we would always run into people from Kerang.”
Ms Vanderwarker was born in Kerang in 1950, a year after her parents moved to the town from Gippsland. She relocated to Melbourne in 1969 to attend teachers’ college.
A mix of guests who still reside in Kerang and others who moved elsewhere will attend, including former headmistress Jenny Greenwood.
Doors open at 11.15am, with lunch served at 12.30pm.
