ORGANISERS of the Kerang show say they’re happy with last week’s turnout, despite having to scale back the program due to bad weather.
“We’re really pleased with the overall event and the crowd,” Kerang and District Agricultural Society secretary Lorraine Morris said.
“The public really enjoyed it and we had lots of people through the pavilions which was good.”
Ms Morris said the pavilion entries were also well supported with locals of all ages keen to showcase their talents.
The event also showcased the district’s vibrant agricultural industry, and it was a record year for the fleece competition with many high quality exhibits on display.
“This was a record year for fleeces,” Ms Morris said.
“It was the largest number we’ve seen.”
The region’s inclement weather was reflected throughout this year’s exhibits, with some categories impacted by the rain.
“Floral exhibits were down on previous years but that’s to be expected with the weather we’ve had,” Ms Morris said.
“That’s the way the cookie crumbles.”
Meanwhile, a strong working relationship with the Kerang Men’s Shed also contributed to the success of this year’s event.
The members have been working behind the scenes to install new display cabinets within the pavilion to house the various entries.
The Men’s Shed collaboration also ignited an appreciation of woodwork within the younger members of the community with laughter and chatter echoing throughout the pavilion as showgoers completed one of three projects initiated by the group.
“The children were able to complete a tool box, bird feeder or car with the help of the men’s shed,” Ms Morris said.
“The children had a ball and this was a new initiative, something we haven’t had before.”
Overall, Ms Morris said the committee was happy with the event and the support of the community.
“We’d like to thank everyone for their support,” she said.
“The event was well supported and we’re very pleased with that.”
Winners from the various categories will now go on to represent Kerang at a regional level, with winners progressing onto the state competition.
