Meet Mallee’s Federal candidates

We gave all Mallee candidates the final call on why voters should elect them to Federal Parliament on Saturday.

Nicole Rowan

Greens

IN a wealthy country like Australia, everyone should be able to afford the basics like a home, food and access to world class health and education.

Politics should be about having some ambition for a better future.

We believe the government should use its economic resources to actually tackle the major problems people face.

The Greens are working for things that will make life better for millions of people, like universal healthcare that includes dental and mental health in Medicare, building 1000 new public healthcare clinics, lowering the retirement age and raising income support payments, including the aged pension, above the poverty line.

To fund these fully and independently costed policies, the Greens will ensure that big corporations pay their fair share of tax.

People are sick of politics and desperate for positive change.

If you want change, you have to vote for it. Vote 1 Nicole Rowan – Greens.

Anne Webster

The Nationals

IT is my honour to serve as Federal Member for Mallee since 2019, travelling throughout Mallee’s 70-plus towns over 83,412 km2 (one third of Victoria’s landmass).

I am passionate about continuing to fight for you and your community in Canberra.

As Shadow Assistant Minister for Regional Health, I convened two national summits on regional Australia’s dire health and aged care workforce shortages.

A Coalition Government will invest almost $10 billion into Medicare and spend $100 million to train more young people to become a doctor locally.

The Coalition also funded the $30 million Swan Hill emergency department.

Under Labor, mortgage repayments have risen 41 per cent and rents 15 per cent, so the Coalition will help young people buy a new home with 5 per cent deposit and accessing up to $50,000 of superannuation.

A Coalition government will provide immediate cost-of-living relief, cutting 25c a litre when you fill up the family car.

Chris Lahy

Australian Citizens Party

I LIVE at Lake Boga, am 57 and a former dairy farmer, currently working as a landscape gardener, and caring for an elderly family member through My Aged Care and my son who has a disability.

I am heavily involved in youth affairs and personal development within the community.

I represent the Australian Citizens Party whose number one policy is to restore economic sovereignty with an Aussie Post Bank which would help solve the cost of living and housing crises by funding a National Housing Authority; restore banking services to the Mallee; protect people’s savings; save post offices; support Aussie manufacturing and family farms; and bust up the private banking cartel.

The ACP would prioritise investment in national food and fuel security; in water, power and transportation infrastructure and we would divest the Coles-Woolies duopoly. The ACP is also determined to re-establish an independent foreign policy, end AUKUS, and return integrity to public governance.

It has never been more urgent to consider the welfare of our next generations. Young people need hope, optimism and vision for the future. They need affordable access to tertiary education, housing and child-care, and local training incentives!

I stand for these ideas and principles. Please break with the major parties and vote ACP this election.

Adam Veitch

Trumpet of Patriots

AS we come to the end of another election cycle, are we ready to head in the direction of prosperity and unity or are we happy with the divide and conquer method of governance?

Weak leadership has created hard times which will continue to get worse.

We need to come full circle and elect strong leaders to create good times.

The cost of government crisis we are currently in is because for decades the Uni party have from right under our noses perpetually sold off of our “common wealth”, its mineral and resources with little to no benefit to us at all,

If you don’t know what the Lima Declaration is, you should look into it as it will give clarity as to whose allegiance the government has at heart.

We should be the UEA wealth-wise of the Southern Hemisphere, we are one of the richest countries on earth but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the state of affairs.

This is because of decades of weak leadership, our elected representatives have sold out our country to multi-national, special interests and party donors to “feather their own nests” and a life after office.

The time is now to get rid of the Uni party circus as the door is about to shut with election reform being shoved through to even further limit options for representation into the future.

Greg Olsen

Labor

IN a re-elected Labor Government, I will:

• Work to create more bulk-billed GP visits

• Reduce and cap the cost of medicines on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme

• Reduce student debt by 20 per cent

• Deliver more free TAFE places

• Make free TAFE permanent

• Deliver cheaper child care

• Guarantee three days of child care for children who need it

• Deliver real wage increases

• Legislate to protect penalty rates

• Deliver two more tax cuts to every Australian taxpayer

• Introduce a $1000 instant tax deduction

• Unlock $22.7 billion of additional investment under the Future Made in Australia plan ensuring more value-adding to Australia’s resources and securing good jobs and major investment in our regional industrial centres

• Support investing $10 billion to build up to 100,000 homes for sale to first home buyers

• Give first home buyers access to 5 per cent deposits

• Build essential roads and rail infrastructure

Vaughan Williams

One Nation

I HAIL from a family deeply embedded in our region’s core.

A former Bendigo councillor, I have demonstrated dedication to delivering for communities like ours.

I know Mallee’s struggles – farmers under pressure, soaring costs, and crumbling infrastructure.

I’m committed to securing fair water policies to safeguard our agricultural backbone, improving roads and internet to link our produce to markets, and expanding local healthcare for our families.

Backed by One Nation, I will champion affordable energy, less bureaucracy, and controlled immigration to create jobs and lower living costs.

I’m not in it for politics but to be Mallee’s unwavering voice in Canberra, defending our farmers, businesses, and values.

Vote Vaughan Williams to protect our nation and ensure Mallee’s prosperity.

Libertarian candidate Jeff Barry.
Family First candidate Ashleigh Gray.

Libertarian candidate Jeff Barry and Family First candidate Ashleigh Gray didn’t respond before deadline.
