Cohuna Golf

THE ladies section began their new season with a promising turn-out on Tuesday for their social bowls afternoon.

The first winners were Yvonne, Kath and Deanne who combined well for a 21-10 victory.

Lovely to see some recognition of the Royal passing, with the Queen’s pearls getting a fair bit of attention.

Onto our jackpot pairs on Thursday, where the weather held off enough for us to get through the day. Clear winners were the pairing of President Tucker and Snow Baker, whilst the repechage poultry went the way of Noel Hosking and Nev Henery.

Great to see a couple of familiar faces from last season re-join, adding to our numbers.

The jackpot number was +37, far too high to be claimed, so we’re looking at $50 this week.

Our president and secretary attended the gala dinner on Friday to open the new Barham complex and were suitably impressed by the facilities and organisation, whilst Peter and Frank represented the club at the opening tournament the following day.

With very ordinary weather, the value of the undercover green was most evident, with Peter managing a collect with three wins.

Despite valiant attempts by our greens staff to make conditions as safe and pleasant as possible, it was decided to abandon Sunday’s practice match against Cohuna. A shame as both clubs had done a great job to field multiple teams and all were looking forward to a decent hit out.

For our members, the final chance for match practice is the Echuca match on October 1. Pat or Craig will be pleased to collect names.

Over the coming week, we have members participating in tournaments at Murray Downs, Rich River, Euston and Lockington.

Best of luck to all, win or lose, the Cohuna Golf attendance is always appreciated wherever it bobs up.

Kerang Golf

CONGRATULATIONS to the Kerang Blues on winning the Central Murray league grand final on Saturday.

With the footy season completed, it is hoped the weather will improve and playing numbers will increase.

With pennant only three weeks away, thanks to those members who have been practicing during the week and attending our social bowls on Thursdays and Sundays.

Last Thursday, we had a mixture of pairs and triples, with only one two-game winner at the conclusion.

Congratulations to Trevor Linton and Rob Malseed on their victory. Runners up on a countback were Howard McClelland and John Duckworth. Chocolates to Bryce McLeish, Marlene Rawson and Jeff Anderson.

Sunday’s bowls were played under threatening skies and eventually, the weather won out, with the second game being shortened because of a heavy shower.

However, we still had winners – Carol Pay, Rob Malseed and Allison Medson, with chocolates to Bryce McLeish, Aaron Lancaster and Jim McLeish.

Welcome home to Frank and Lorraine and Jimmy and Sonia. Rumour has it that they played lots of bowls while travelling, so they will be in top form for the pennant season ahead.

We had some representatives at the Barham opening day on Saturday. Congratulations to cluBarham and Barham Bowls Club on the official opening of their new complex.

This facility will be a tremendous asset to bowls in our area, allowing bowls to be played in all weather conditions.

Coming events at Kerang Golf Bowls sees the staging of our annual practice match against Lake Boga on Friday.

Teams will be selected and posted on the noticeboard. The following Saturday, October 1, is our captain versus president day and the following Saturday (October 8) is the commencement of pennant.

If you haven’t been out for a practice or joined in the social bowls, it is probably time to start rolling a few down.

Leitchville

REMINDER to all members that Midweek Pennant commences on October 5 and Saturday Pennant commences on October 8.
