Treat for kids with free entry to Kerang Show

FAMILIES will have a special treat at the 136th Kerang Show, with children under 16 admitted free entry.

This is thanks to a State Government grant provided to a number of country shows around the state, offering a great incentive for families to attend without having to break the bank.

The Kerang Show committee is busily preparing for the show scheduled for Monday, October 3, hoping to have the full support of the community behind them after two years of cancellations due to COVID.

Acting secretary Lorraine Morris said members’ tickets were mailed out ready for early payment.

“This allows you to come and go all day and into the evening,” she said, adding no family tickets were available this year due to the free children entry.

New volunteers are also needed to run the event, with the opportunity to be mentored by an existing volunteer.

“Over 80 volunteers are required to run the show,” Ms Morris said.

The Victorian Agricultural Shows (VAS) and Northern District Agricultural Societies (NDAS) competitions provide much interest with winners going onto group finals in early 2023.

VAS Ltd winners at group will go to state finals next year. Ms Morris said Kerang entrants been fortunate to have won state competitions over the years.

Attractions and entertainment will again be available for all ages.

Horse and yard dog events provide great interest as they show off their prowess on the day.

Ms Morris said the Smash up Derby was back again this year, which is always a great crowd pleaser.

Other attractions include Kerang District Health’s health checks, face painting, wooden builds with the men’s shed and a display of snakes.

Australian champion Adrian Harry, from Xtreme Bike Trials, is returning with a great display of dare devil motor bike riding.

A great attraction for the young and not so young is the REVITUP team. This is junior racing experience using simulators where families and friends can race against each other.

Circus Elements will give a roving experience around the crowd and Professor Wallace Puppets which delights the young ones and much more.

“We will not be providing our own animal nursery this year, but have a mobile nursery coming with opportunity for the young patrons,” Ms Morris said.

Kerang Technical High School students will be displaying their projection talents, while a special feature in the home craft pavilion is new cookey showcases thanks to a grant.

All entries can be made from Friday, September 23 at the secretary’s office at the showgrounds between 10am and 4pm.

Check the Kerang Show Facebook page for updates on the entertainment.
