Northern District Dance Association Ball

IT was a weekend full of fun and song as the Northern District Dance Association held their first annual weekend of dance after a two-year break.

The dance-packed weekend started with a welcome dance on Friday night, the annual ball was held on Saturday evening, which included the crowning of a “star” and “beau” of the evening, before the weekend was finished off with a Sunday dance afternoon.

There were many old-time dances that were a part of the program, enjoyed by visitors from South Australia, New South Wales and Canberra, as well as the loyal locals.

Music for the evenings were complements of the Gay Charmers Band, who have been performing at old-time dance evenings for over 60 years, and accomplished Wedderburn musician Cheryl Bailey.

While attendance over the weekend was lower than in previous years due to difficulties with COVID and the flu, the enjoyable music, friendly atmosphere and tasty suppers provided by the SES and Kerang Girl Guides more than made up for it.

The Northern District Dance Association has been running this event for over 40 years, and is looking forward to providing a similar program in July 2023.
