Down the fairways

COHUNA

“BEWARE the injured golfer” is a term often heard on the course and again it has rung true.

After bumping into Norm Cue at the supermarket and hearing his tales of woe, I now need to report that he managed to come out last Thursday and claim first prize with a solid 36 points.

Bruce Bird claimed second prize with 33.

Nearest to pins (NTP) went to Geoff Miller on 2, Norm Cue on 8 and Bruce Bird on 11.

Conditions did not look too good on Saturday but a few brave souls showed up to play.

After enduring a substantial shower early, conditions quickly improved to provide a fine day of golfing.

Trevor Farrant took first prize on countback from Brenton Smyth, both with good rounds of 37 points.

Mal Appleby came in 3rd with 35. Trevor also did well in the NTP, playing the most accurate shots on 2 and 11 with John Power closest on 8. Sunday saw the start of the mixed pairs knockout where Sandra and Dennis Griffiths came in best with 64 from Jennie Goulding and Garry Hooper with 63.

In the individual men’s Stableford event, it was Kevin Crane with 34 with Jeff Mason on 31. NTP went to John Dickins on 2, Jeff Mason on 8, Mal Appleby on 11 and Trevor Farrant on 17.

KERANG

Ladies golf on August 12

Eleven ladies faced another cold day on Wednesday, with Meagan Taylor (16) winning the day on a countback from the in-form Angela Morton (16), both having 35 points.

Rosie Laughlin (35) had a good score of 34 points with Nola Robinson (28) on 33 points taking out balls in the ball pool. Meagan won the Chino’s NTP 9th and Chrissy Downs has a new pen. Next week hit at 10am.

Thursday R&R Stableford on August 13

On a reasonable dry day, 19 men entered the competition and Gary Pay was the winner with 38 points followed by Col Wilkie and Joe Tartaglia both on 36 points and last in the ball pool saw Phil Lloyd, on a countback with 33 points.

NTP went to P. Lloyd on the 3rd, K. Lane on the 5th, G. Wyte on the 9th, A. Free on the 13th. Once again, nobody got the 16th.

Saturday Greenwood Mugge on August 13

A field of 20 contested the Greenwood Mugge and the Ladies Goblet, on a very wet course with not much run.

The ladies winner was Olive Spitty, scoring 27 points. Ross Nesbit won the Mugge with 38 points, from Captain Jack on 36 points.

The others in the ball pool were G. Teasdale 33, D. Wood and J. Tartaglia on 32. NTP 3rd R. Nesbit, 5th D. Wood, 9th K. Lane, 13th C. Wilkie and 16th A. Spitty. Doug Ellwood has a nice blue pen.
