KERANG Technical High School’s acquisition of new bicycles could open up more active options for students.
More than a dozen Giant bikes have been funded through the Victorian Government’s Active Schools grant.
The government said the initiative aimed to ensure students had the skills, confidence and motivation to be active for life, building on existing programs and funding to boost support and resources to get schools and students moving.
Active travel was one of the priority areas, helping foster school and community connection and reducing road and public transport congestion and pollution.
Sport co-ordinator Nathan Henry said the aim was to increase the community facility usage during school through the use of active transport.
“Establishment of active lunchtime activities where students can put their bike handling skills to the test as well as increasing the active out-of-school options for students,” Mr Henry said.
“KTHS has had a strong connection with the Great Victorian Bike Ride. It is hoped that through increasing the availability of resources, it may again become a viable option for students to participate each year.”
