THE Northern District Cricket Association held their presentations following the grand final played on February 26 at the Murrabit Recreation Reserve.
Prior to the commencement of the finals series, Murrabit were six points clear on top of the ladder with 33 points, with the remaining three teams all on 21 points. This is an indication of the evenness of the competition.
Some considered that Kerang may have the capabilities of taking it to Murrabit in the Grand final but they ended up in last position due to their run rate.
Koondrook had defeated Barham the previous two times they met, but Barham came back strongly to win the Preliminary Final, claiming the right to challenge Murrabit for the pennant.
Following Murrabit’s convincing win in the Grand Final, the association’s most valuable player for the season was awarded to Barham’s Chameera Akurugoda.
Akurugoda had a dominant season with both bat and ball, scoring the second most runs and being joint leader in the wickets tally.
Koondrook youngster Kynan Laursen gained the most dismissals as a wicket keeper and Bailey Laursen, also from Koondrook, was joint winner of the most wickets.Awards:
