THE bright, pink BreastScreen Victoria mobile van is visiting Kerang to offer free breast screens until the end of the month.
The van was last in Kerang in 2020, and women who are due for their regular breast screen will be invited to come along for this important health check.
Most women aged between 50 and 74 should have a breast screen every two years. They are the best way to find breast cancer early – before there are symptoms and when treatment was most likely to be successful.
A breast screen can find cancer as small as a grain of rice, long before it can be seen or felt.
All breast screens are with a female radiographer in a safe and friendly environment, and take just 10 minutes to complete. There’s no need for a doctor’s referral or Medicare card.
The van will operate with COVID-19 safety measures in place, such as physical distancing, to protect both the community and staff.
All clients who screen on the van in Kerang must wear a fitted face mask unless they are exempt.
BreastScreen Victoria chief executive officer Terri Smith encouraged women, aged 50-74, from Kerang and surrounds, to take advantage of the van’s visit.
“Marjorie is one of our two mobile screening vans which travel the state throughout the year. This visit to Kerang has been organised to make sure women in every part of Victoria have access to a potentially life-saving mammogram,” Ms Smith said.
“The vans use the highest quality digital radiography machines to ensure that women receive the best service, regardless of their location.”
The van will be located at RSL Drive, directly behind Woolworths carpark and Memorial Hall, until February 28.
Appointments for the Kerang van can be made online at breastscreen.org.au or call 13 20 50.
