ALL the favourites return this weekend for the 111th annual Cohuna Show, with a new family fun day added to the schedule.
The two-day event begins on Friday night with an action-packed program to cater for all ages and interests.
There will be the traditional sideshow thrills, carnival rides, showbags and show food, with the impressive pavilion showcasing the talents of locals residents, from cooking to cut flowers, photography to painting.
Friday night’s attractions include airbrush tattoos, camel rides, Cohuna Fire Brigade display, health checks, dunking machine, face painting, food trucks, magic show, petting zoo, Royal Flying Doctors, show superstar, ferret racing and the young farmers challenge.
Saturday’s gates open to Border Flywheelers, livestock competitions; beef, cattle, dogs, horses and poultry.
The family fun day activities on Saturday include a treasure hunt, balloon animals, coffee van and donuts and water creature station.
Cohuna and District Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Society secretary Giorgi Boucher said the committee made a note to return what worked from previous years while introducing new attractions.
“We have taken what worked really well last year and built on that and reintroduced some things that have been a crowd favourite, such as the ferret races,” she said.
“The food trucks were well-patronised last year and gives people a few cultural opportunities.”
Ms Boucher encouraged people to enter the young farmers challenge, with cash prizes on offer for groups of four aged 18-35.
“As always we have our animal competitions which is such an important part of being able to celebrate the agricultural heritage of our area,” she said.
The volume of pavilion entries have also been one of the best.
“We’re really looking forward to having their entries tabled for us to present to the judges,” Ms Boucher said.
“The children’s works are always a highlight for me.”
Ms Boucher said keeping the show engaged was important.
“We try to highlight and celebrate youth in the community as well,” she said.
“There are a lot of great opportunities for youth involvement within the shows and also development through the royal ambassadors and things like that.
“It’s quite often the only time that a fair few community members get off the farm and catch up with all their mates and just get to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.”
