Marlene Laursen has been officially recognised by the New South Wales Police for her ongoing support of the border operation at checkpoint 13 at Gonn Crossing, Murrabit.
Marlene’s supply of scones and gluten-free orange cake has contributed to the Murrabit posting becoming a popular one with the NSW force. They all want to be posted to Murrabit. Gluten-free? – you spoil them Marlene.

Spotted in the street the other day was former St Kilda player and Quambatook legend Jimmy Wallis. It seems the only time we ever see Jim is in the street. Which one of us is the street-walker Jim? It was great to see Jim and the lovely Jan out and about.

Last Monday and Tuesday the volunteers at the Kerang Golf Club spent a bit of time cleaning up after the storm on the Sunday.
A couple of trees dropped a branch or two and some needed to be cleaned out of Murphy’s Lake. Less obstacles, can’t be a bad thing really.

Social bowls on Tuesday morning saw Murray Pay having a bit of a roll. The competition would be fierce, but it doesn’t matter who wins, just as long as you can have a go.

It appears that Nola Wright had a birthday last week. Luckily Nola and Bruce’s girls reminded Lefty or he would have missed it. Hope you had a great day Nola.
Lefty claims that she’s catching up to him.

Local builder Johnny Hogg was seen driving around town last week. John was a rippin’ footballer that could change a game in his day.
Starting his footy at Lakes, he also played at Kerang and Appin.

It seems that the Covid restrictions have prevented some new cars from coming off the wharf, so there’s been a few second hand sales. Local dealers, including Arnoldt & Greenwood, Kerang Toyota, Franzini’s and Cohuna Car Sales would do all in their power to ensure that locals won’t be left short if they need to upgrade their vehicle.

On Saturday some bowlers from Kerang Golf Bows Club had a practice roll against Lake Boga. The club was only allowed to take 24 players along due to those restrictions, but that’s a start.
Lake Boga compete in the Swan Hill association that will commence full competition on Saturday, October 17.
Tyrrell and Bendigo associations also start that weekend, but the poor old Northern District Lawns Bowls Association must wait until January. What’s the go with that? Playing against Wakool and Barham teams may have something to do with it, although both those towns, along with the Victorian towns in the NDLTA, are all within the border bubble.
Laurie Gray at the Golf Club and Gayle Teasdale in at Kerang would be a couple who would just want to have a game, as would any keen bowler. Picked those two names out of the blue, but I know they love their bowls.

One local footballer who has played a game this year is Jaydon Stiles. Back in town following his premiership with Gunnedah in AFL North West NSW League, Jaydon will be busy at the gym and looking forward to a successful recruiting season for Macorna.
Hopefully they can grab Richard Tambling for the 2021 season. Local footy needs that. Tambling played with Stiles for Sturt in the South Australian state league. Maybe he can entice his brother, Josh, to come for a kick also.
