MURRABIT CELEBRATE

MORE than 130 people turned out in perfect weather for Australia Day celebrations done Murrabit style on Sunday.

The crowd, made up of both residents and visitors, enjoyed breakfast served up by the Murrabit and District Lions Club at the back of the public hall before hearing from ambassador Professor Greg Sassella.

Professor Sassella, a former CEO of Ambulance Victoria, spoke about bravery, courage and respect in a modern society.

He told of witnessing those qualities in his work as a paramedic in Melbourne and about how courage and bravery are displayed on a day-to-day basis in the decision-making of rural communities and farming families.

Prof Sassella was introduced by Gannawarra Shire Council’s director of community wellbeing Stacy Williams and Murrabit Lions Club president Lyn Madden.
