The gift of giving

KERANG Girl Guides have been putting together special gift packs which will help to brighten Christmas for hospital patients.

Guide leader Linda Davey said the gift packs included a face washer, soap, a bon bon, Christmas card, small torch and some Christmas decorations, along with several donated vouchers from local businesses.

“They made gift packs to be given to people in hospital on Christmas Day,” Ms Davey said.

A group of Kerang Girl Guides and leaders paid a visit to Kerang District Health on Friday, placing the gift packs they had assembled under the Christmas tree.

The girls, including Gumnut Guides, aged between five and seven, and and Brownie Guides, aged between 7 and 10, sold baked goods, some of which they made, to raise the funds needed to purchase the contents of the gift packs.

Grays Bakery of Kerang also chipped in by donating some of the baked items which were sold.

Patient Heather Burdon received her present early, just after it had been delivered.

She enthusiastically expressed her appreciation for the gift.

“You’ve all done very well and you’ve all got your uniforms looking nice and clean so I congratulate you all,” she told the Guides, amusing them with a story of a Girl Guide she knew who accidentally burned her uniform when trying to iron it, then threw it in a river to hide the evidence.

Guide Elora Brown said she enjoyed the experience of preparing the gift packs.

“It was fun, knowing someone will get it and be happy,” she said.
