Ladies Gala day a success

Cohuna

Division One won by two shots over Cohuna Golf. Division Two and Three were defeated.

Brian Bowles bounced back into the winning circles against Bluey Fletcher by three shots, but the scores were level five times.

Jeff Reade played against John Keely and took an early lead, but Cohuna Golf came back later to make the score look more presentable, after trailing by 16 shots after six ends. Cohuna up by 11 shots.

Rhonda Ballard was against the up and coming bowler in Jarrod Hammond and was in arrears all day, but picked up five shots in two ends to help the other rinks, going down by 12 shots.

A win is a win especially against a top side.

Division Two won two rinks but suffered heavily with the other rink.

Frank Bagg won by 10 shots against a side that on paper, would win games in Division One. That was Gary Easton’s side winning 14 ends and a six on the 17th end helped them secure a good win. Well done Dusty.

Wally Henery played against Doug Peace and got a six on the first end, but gave a six back on the 24th. Wally had a win by nine shots.

Dianne Manners went down by 26 shots against Kerry Ballard, and the experienced Ron Eckhardt and co kept Dianne to a mere eight ends, resulting in Cohuna losing by seven shots.

Division Three went to Pyramid Hill and faced a team with a couple of Division Two helping out. Cohuna knew they were going to be hard to beat.

Cohuna had two rinks up and a bad loss going down by one shot. Michael McGann up by seven shots on the 22nd end did a six over three ends to win by one shot against Ian Bartels.

Marge Mooney, comprising of three talented ladies and John Crichton, who is leading him astray, won by eight shots against Alan Fidler and they won the cup of coffee donated by Waffles – not wine Lois.

Noel Yandle played against L. Dingwall and, without doubt, was the best player Cohuna had and must have had a sore back carrying the other three, especially me who never gave Noel After Smoko.

The talented player in Marie Scott, who had two metres to draw, shot it was like picking cherries at a cherry farm.

Poker jackpot has gone to $130.

Kerang

Ladies Gala Day

11 teams from Northern District clubs and one team from Boort entered the Kerang Bowls Ladies Gala Day annual event.

Thank you one and all for your company and great spirit of camaraderie evident throughout the day.

Three games of 10 ends, a delicious smorgasboard lunch and a refreshing afternoon tea were enjoyed by all.

Marie Scott’s Pyramid Hill team comprised of herself, Graham Moon, Glenys Broad and Ed Fenton as a ring-in, was the only team to win three games and claimed first prize.

However, a countback was needed to split two teams who managed two wins and a draw.

Cohuna Golf’s team of Yvonne Eckhardt, Rhonda Bibby, Irene Tresize and Gwen Campbell held sway over Kerang Golf’s team of Lorraine Ritchie, Marlene Orr, Carol Pay and Lorraine Douglas.

There were opportunities off the green for others to take home some bounty, with raffles and lucky player positions drawn.

Raffles were won by Gillian Tweddle (Christmas cake), Shirley Forbes (Christmas pudding) and Elaine Hosking (Clivea plant). Phyl Baker won the door prize.

The success of the day was in no small way attributed to our major sponsor, Kerang Sports and Entertainment Venue, and our many loyal and willing volunteers, who are too numerous to mention. President Coral expresses her sincere thanks to you all.

Black Duck

24 bowlers played in windy conditions on November 26.

Two game winners were N. Robertson, L. Hein and R. Batchelor on +12.

Second game winners were K. Strachan, S. Pascoe and M. Pay on +7.

Jackpot number drawn was -3. not claimed.

If you want to play Black Duck, put your name on the list on the notice board or call the club between 9.30am and 11am for a 12.30pm start.

Ray Marshall and Ian Roberts are in hospital, we wish them well and hope they are back soon.

There are plenty of tournaments around the region on the board. Come in and check them out and support the clubs that support us please. Ladies sheets are in the change room by the C green exit.

The B grade singles draw is now on the notice board.

Our Christmas party is on December 14. A list will be on the notice board soon for those attending.

Tonight, December 6 at 5.30pm, Wandella Football Club are having a function at our club rooms, helpers are needed.

The final rounds of the Ladies Club Singles will be held today, December 6 as well.

The final round of Twilight Triples were held on Wednesday, December 4, winners were D.B.S. team of Dale Spinks, Frank Ritchie and Sid Hutchinson on countback from Charles’ Boys, Mick Fowlers Pilots and Hirdy’s Terrors, all on 28 points.

Overall winners of competition were Budda Murray’s team of Budda, Neil Paul, Nick Jarman and Rob Jarman (emergency) 220 from Mick Fowlers Pilots on 212 points.

Hirdy’s Terrors were third on 178 points and Auto-Pro in fourth on 155.

Thanks to all players who played in the Twilight Triples.

Our next evening competition will be barefoot bowls, commencing January 14, 2020. Place teams on notice board, individual names all invited.
