Inquiries confirmed

While Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh is pushing for an inquiry to address an alleged “bullying” claim involving the Gannawarra Shire Council, the council is under investigation by a number of other agencies.

A WorkSafe spokeswoman confirmed yesterday that “WorkSafe is making inquiries” in relation to the Gannawarra Shire Council.

Meanwhile, Chief Municipal Inspector, David Wolf, also confirmed that the Local Government Inspectorate was “assessing a complaint” in relation to the council.

However, details of the investigations remain confidential.

“The Inspectorate deals with complaints or requests for investigation in strict confidence and does not provide comment on investigations that are yet to be finalised,” Inspector Wolf said.

“In relation to bullying allegations at the council, there are avenues open to address these behaviours, through standard council processes including the Councillor Conduct Policy or Council/Staff Interaction Policy.”
