CAROLE King’s musical career was on show at the Kerang Memorial Hall with senior citizens enjoying the freedom to attend the afternoon performance by Nikki Nicholls, one of the positives of ageing.
Nicholls regaled the crowd with a selection of King’s songs including It’s Too Late, and Up on the Roof with the famous lyrics ‘when this old world starts getting me down’, interspersing them with stories of the singer-songwriter’s career and life, including her shy introduction into the spotlight.
“Carole King was petrified of being out the front, she was happy to hide behind keyboards,” Nicholls said, explaining how she was able to come out of her shell.
Keyboard player Adrian Scott and guitarist Steve Wade lent musical and vocal support.
Nicholls’ extensive musical career was kickstarted when she appeared on the children’s television variety program, Brian and the Juniors.
She has since performed in Australia and overseas with a number of famous entertainers, including Suzie Quatro, Richard Clapton and the John Farnham Band.
The free Kerang concert was part of the Victorian Seniors Festival, and was the Gannawarra Shire’s major event for the festival.
