CMFNL – District’s top three

THREE Central Murray Football Netball League district sides continue to remain undefeated following the completion of the first three rounds of the season.

The Cohuna Kangas and the Mallee Eagles join six-time reigning premiers, Kerang in not dropping a match so far in 2018, with the sides filling the top three positions on the ladder.

The Eagles remain on top of the ladder for another week, thanks to a six-goal effort from Saad Saad in the club’s 67-point win under lights against Swan Hill.

In a rematch of last year’s first semi-final, the Eagles controlled the game from the opening bounce, leading by 45 points at half time.

The Kangas have matched their efforts of 12 months ago, remaining undefeated in the first three weeks of the season thanks to a 47-point win against Tooleybuc/Manangatang.

In what was the club’s first win against the Saints since 2013, Harrison Keely (five goals) and coach, Scott Beattie (four goals) led the way in the victors’ forward line, with a five-goal to one third term securing the win.

Meanwhile, the Blues’ experience helped the side claim a 39-point win against Nyah-Nyah West United – the second game of the weekend to begin at dusk.

Travis Matheson marked his first game since last year’s grand final with a five-goal effort, whilst former Nightcliff captain, Nathan Brown booted three goals for the victors.

Fellow district side, Koondrook/Barham is one win outside the top five following a 52-point loss to Woorinen.

Glenn Boyd dominated for the Tigers, kicking six of the victors’ 15 goals for the game.

Cameron Arnold booted three goals for the Raiders, who trailed by one point at quarter time but struggled against last season’s grand finalists.
