LEITCHVILLE/GUNBOWER faces its second Heathcote District Football Netball League premiership defence test in the space of four weeks tomorrow when the Bombers travel to Colbinabbin.
The Bombers’ 179-point win against Heathcote last weekend enabled to competition’s northernmost side to claim top spot from the Grasshoppers, who had the bye.
Despite this, the two sides – as well as Huntly – go into this round undefeated, with the Bombers to remain on top of the ladder if the side wins.
Russell De Groot’s debut last weekend added to the Bombers’ ruck strength, with coach, Michael Pilcher able to control proceedings across the half-forward line.
De Groot’s battle with Mitchell McEvoy will be pivotal to the result, but the likes of Jack Gleeson, Matt Ladson and Mitchell Bruns will be too strong in the middle for the hosts’ onball combination of Sam Vale and Mitchell Bright.
Elliot Bowen – who kicked five goals in the Grasshoppers’ 73-point win against Heathcote 13 days’ ago – will have to repeat his performance if his side is to win, but Sean Hay and Ryan Prendergast will have other ideas.
Down the other end of the ground, Matt Perri continues his dominance of the competition in front of goal, and if Tim Hill and Damien Carmody do not stop the prolific forward, Leitchville/Gunbower will record a fourth consecutive win against Colbinabbin.
PREDICTION: Leitchville/Gunbower will go into the round five bye with a 30-point win against the Grasshoppers.
