A labour of love

YOUNG women receiving treatment for various illnesses are benefiting from the generosity of the district’s youths.

More than 100 young women recently worked together during Northern District Community Health Girls Night In event at Cohuna, Kerang and Koondrook to create three quilts that will be presented to those receiving support locally.

The young women who took part in the initiative were inspired to consider a beautiful and uplifting message that was then detailed on a fabric quilting square, with many of the messages focusing on hope and encouragement.

“I thought it would be a lovely inclusion on the nights for the girls, especially to reflect and give back while they, themselves were being pampered,” Northern District Community Health youth worker, Justine Farley said.

“The young women in the Gannawarra Shire have become part of something bigger in making these quilts of love by giving back and supporting others.”

The fabric squares were passed onto Beryl Tartaglia and Wendy Cartwright, who sewed them together to create the final products.

People who want to view the finished products can call into Tarmac Fabrics in Kerang after January 15.
