Brekky with mates

MATES in Kerang and surrounds are encouraged to come to a free men’s breakfast barbecue “run by men, for men” which will be held every second Friday starting from January 30.

Organised by volunteers from Kerang Neighbourhood House, the breakfast will take place between 6am to 9am at Kerang Neighbourhood House and manager Claire Fry said itss a good time because it is before work hours begin.

“It gives people an opportunity to come along and have breakfast before going to work,” she said.

“It’s also a good way to socialise with other men in the community.”

Ms Fry said promoting opportunities for men to socialise was important in regional towns like Kerang.

“It’s great for mental health,” she said.

“Men can become isolated, especially when they have the responsibility of looking after a farm or a business.”

“Hopefully this gives them an outlet to socialise instead of isolating themselves.”

Ms Fry said the barbecue trolley at the breakfast has been provided by Kerang District Health who will be providing free health checks to attendees at future breakfasts.

“The breakfast is about socialising, but it’s also a really good way to tie in awareness about men’s health,” she said.

“I just hope men of all ages and backgrounds can come and enjoy each other’s company and even make new friends.”

Ms Fry said Kerang Neighbourhood House is also looking to host sessions in Murrabit, Koondrook, Benjeroop and Quambatook in the near future.
