League, Blues enter mediation

THE Central Murray Football Netball League and Kerang Football Netball Club will enter into mediation to resolve differences following last month’s second semi-final.

The league board received a set of recommendations from a four-week investigation into the club’s conduct following an on-field incident involving Blues player, Bronson Booth and Woorinen’s Doug Palmer.

The league alleged the 2017 premiers and its management of breaching AFL Victoria Country’s Cybersafety Policy in the days following the incident.

The league board received five options to proceed with the allegations earlier this week, with a mediation process the most suitable option.

“The tribunal route is an adversarial forum where there are only winners and losers,” league chairman, John Brookshaw said.

“The board members and the leadership of Kerang FNC need to work together in the future for the best interests of the league.

“Mediation may allow both parties to walk away as winners.”

AFL Central Murray will appoint an independent mediator, which could be a commissioner, a regional general manager, or a third party.

“We expect any mediation session(s) to be concluded by early next week,” Brookshaw said.
