Basketball crisis talks

A CRISIS meeting will be held tomorrow night to ensure the 2017/18 Kerang Amateur Basketball Association season proceeds.

Eight people turned up to last week’s annual meeting, with a number of key positions needing to be filled to ensure the committee will be able to oversee the town’s annual basketball season.

Close to 200 people – ranging in age from eight-year-olds to adults – competed last summer, with a similar number predicted to take to the court when action is scheduled to begin in October.

“Everyone is busy these days, but the old saying is ‘if you want something done, ask a busy person’,” association president, Tara Tuohey said.

“The association has been run by a group of five parents for the last couple of years, but we have all had enough.”

If there is not enough support at the meeting – occurring at the Maxwell Street basketball stadium from 7pm – the association will reassess its options for the coming season.

“If your kids are involved in sport or any other activity, it is important to put your hand up and help,” Tuohey said.
