HDFNL – Double chance goal on track

LEITCHVILLE/GUNBOWER will be one match closer to securing the Heathcote District Football Netball League double-chance with a victory at Elmore tomorrow.

Sitting second on the ladder, the Bombers are two wins clear of third-placed Colbinabbin with six games remaining, but are more importantly three victories ahead of fourth-placed Huntly and fifth-placed White Hills.

Like the Bombers, the Hawks have already observed two byes this year, and with the Demons taking on the ladder-leading North Bendigo and Huntly hosting the improving Lockington Bamawm United, Matt Hawken’s men need to record at least 11 wins this season to finish in the top three.

A victory at the Elmore Recreation Reserve will move the Bombers one step close to this goal, with the two-time grand finalists winning their past nine games against the Bloods.

Elmore lost to the Grasshoppers by 100 points, whilst a 12-goal display from Matt Perri helped the Bombers defeat Mount Pleasant by 188 points.

Perri kicked seven goals the last time these teams met – a 133-point win the Bombers’ way back in round four – and he will be just as prolific again.

Nathan Brewster – who was best on ground for the Bloods last weekend – may be the first choice to go to Perri, with Thomas Harney to provide valuable assistance.

Danny Brewster is one player Hawken will be mindful of, with the Elmore spearhead capable of dominating.

However, with the likes of Ryan Prendergast and Steve Pretty controlling proceedings in the back third of the ground, the Bombers will be strong favourites to leave Elmore with the four points.

PREDICTION: Leitchville/Gunbower will win by at least 90 points.
