Art tips help

LOCAL artists took advantage of the chance to learn tips from a multi-award winning member of the Watercolour Society of Victoria.

Julie Goldspink – who was in the area to judge the Rotary Club of Kerang Easter Art Show entries – spent time last Wednesday and Thursday working with Golden Rivers Art Group members on watercolour techniques.

The renowned tutor guided close to 20 people during last Wednesday’s session at the Northern District Community Health Service headquarters on working with Japanese-made Yupo paper, with last Thursday’s class focusing on painting with watercolours on watercolour canvas.

“Taking part in classes is fantastic. That’s why I love teaching, and it also gives me the chance to see some lovely countryside,” Ms Goldspink said.

“Areas like Kerang do not get frequented by tutors compared to those living in the city.”

The workshop was a highlight of the group’s growing stature in the area, which recently changed its name from the Koondrook Barham Arts Group to recognise the number of participants who come from outside of the border towns.

“It is wonderful to get the calibre of Julie to come to Kerang, as normally people who would want to attend these workshops would have to factor in the cost of travel and accommodation,” arts group workshop co-ordinator, Jill Swifte said.

“To have Julie here gave exposure to her skills for the budding artists in the area.”
