Bowls tournament a highlight

ONE of the final events of the district’s lawn bowls calendar for season 2016/17 will attract players to Kerang from Good Friday to April 21.

Bowlers from across the State have already entered the Kerang Bowling Club’s Annual Easter Tournament, which features eight days of action across varying formats.

Players from as far away as Melbourne will compete alongside local bowlers for prizes on each day of competition, with a contingent of members from Mooroopna’s bowls club to take part in four days of action post-Easter.

“We tend to get long-term players who enjoy catching up with old adversaries in a game of bowls,” Kerang Bowling Club president, Jeff Jackson said.

“It is not a high-stakes tournament, so those who play are not in it for the money, but for the enjoyment.”

Depending on the format, up to 40 bowlers will take to the club’s greens for competition, with action starting each day at 12 noon, except for the weekly Black Duck contest on Tuesday (12.30pm start) and the final day of play on April 21 (10am start).

Entries are now being taken, and generally close the night before play.
