Crims’ local target

A LOCAL business and a sporting club were targeted by criminals across the weekend in the latest in a growing trend of break-ins across the district.

Price Merrett Consulting and the Kerang Turf Club were both victims of senseless crimes that yielded the offenders nothing of value but caused extensive damage.

Acting Sergeant Travis Collier said some time between 11am and 4.50pm on Saturday the glass sliding front door of Price Merrett Consulting was smashed, although entry to the building wasn’t gained.

“Fortunately the alarm went off and we believe that caused the offender to leave,” he said.

“We would like to hear from anyone who might have seen someone at the business between those hours.”

The second break-in took place between noon on Friday and 5pm on Sunday, when an offender smashed a wooden door to gain entry into the male jockey quarters at the Kerang Turf Club, before leaving through another door.

Constable Gretta Lanyon said nothing was stolen, but the door was extensively damaged.

She said a 30th birthday party was held at the club on Saturday night, and police were investigating whether that was connected to the break-in.

“We’re calling for any information people might have that can help us,” she said.

Acting Sergeant Collier said crimes of this nature were becoming more common, and people needed to be increasingly vigilant.

Anyone who witnesses any suspicious behaviour should immediately call 000 and ask for police attendance.
