Kerang Golf

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our readers.

Our Wheelbarrow competition was drawn on Friday after our last day of selling tickets. The happy winner was Jill Sparkes.

The Kerang Golf Bowls Club thanks all the Kerang shoppers who purchased tickets, in this, our major fundraiser for the year, with special thanks to Carol and Ken Pay for their excellent organisation of the prizes and rosters.

Not a lot of other news with both the pennant seasons having their Christmas break.

However, last Wednesday, the Ladies B Grade Singles final was played between Allison Medson and Marlene Rawson.

Both ladies bowled very well, but it was Allison who finished off the stronger on most ends and set up a sizeable lead. Marlene rallied late in the game but Allison eventually drew the winning bowl on the 22nd end, to become this year’s B Grade Champion – Congratulations.

Thursday Social had twelve players and a “round-robin” triples was played, with each team playing all the other teams.

At the finish, there was only one three game winner – that being David Randell, Noel Robertson and Jimmy McLeish.

Runners-Up were Bryce McLeish, Craig Hicks and John Duckworth and the chocolates to Laurie Gray, Joycey Tuohey and Howard McClelland.

Our social bowls will continue on Saturdays and Thursdays, except for the Kerang Races Saturday.

There are plenty of tournaments around as well, with Wakool having their usual Christmas Tournament each day leading up to 2025, Pyramid Hill on New Years Day, Barham Star Day Triples on Saturday, January 4th and Leitchville on Sunday 5th.

Men’s Club Championship matches need to be played by 12/1/25, so please get these organised. As well there are two B Grade matches to be played before 31/12/24 and a Pairs game by 12/1/25 also.

Our next tournament is the Australia Day Triples, with the “famous” lamb burgers, on Sunday 26th January. Fliers will be distributed very soon, so get your teams organised.

Thanks to the Gannawarra Times for printing our notes each week – see you in 2025
