Pause to remember wartime sacrifice

CITIZENS are urged to pause on Friday to remember the supreme sacrifices made so many in armed conflicts so that we could live in peace.

Remembrance Day services will be held on Friday to mark the 98th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18).

Armistice Day was later renamed Remebrance Day.Residents will observe one minute’s silence at 11am – the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month – in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

First held on November 11, 1919 after King George V called for all countries across the British Commonwealth to observe two minutes of silence to honour the lives of those killed during World War One, Remembrance Day now honours the lives of all killed serving Australia.

The Kerang and District RSL sub-branch’s commemorations beginning at 10.50am at the Atkinson Park Cenotaph.
