Ready to roll

LAWN bowls players from across the region will converge on Kerang from Sunday as one of the district’s first competitions of the 2016/17 season begins.

The Kerang Bowling Club will host 11 days of action during its 54th annual Spring Carnival.

Entry numbers are on par with last year’s event, with the club encouraging more people to take part.

“This is one of the first carnivals to occur since the start of the winter break, so many people like to use it as a hit-out before the start of pennant season,” club president, Jeff Jackson said.

“As a club, we are lucky that we can continue to play here through winter, but some clubs cannot.”

Competition begins on Sunday with the Star Day any combination fours, with the highlight to be the G.S. (Sid) Greenwood Perpetual Trophy, to be determined during an any combination fours format on Sunday, August 28.

Other daily formats include pairs and triples, with a medley occurring on Wednesday, August 24.

Social matches, including the Tuesday Black Duck triples and Saturday bowls, will continue during the carnival.

“The club is looking forward to kicking the season off, and we appreciate the effort members put in to ensure the carnival runs smoothly,” Jackson said.

Those wishing to take part in any of the days will need to confirm their spot by phoning Bill Lyne (5452 1174), Ian Roberts (5452 1185) or the clubrooms (5452 1194) before 5pm the day before.
