From farmers to millionaires

A LOCAL retired dairy farmer couple are the district’s newest millionaires after winning Saturday night’s TattsLotto draw.

The retirees popped open the champagne on Sunday after winning the division one jackpot and other divisional prizes, worth a total $1,028,818.24 in draw number 3647.

The couple, who wished to remain anonymous, said they were veterans of the popular game and that the news was yet to sink in.

They received official confirmation yesterday morning.

“My husband decided to check our ticket on Sunday, and he called me over saying he thought we had four, no maybe five, or is that all six numbers,” the winning wife said.

“We just couldn’t truly believe it until we received the official phone call!

“We had a champagne breakfast on Sunday to celebrate with our family, and they will certainly benefit from this win also!”

The couple said the windfall meant they can now relax and enjoy their retirement, with hopes their winnings will provide some good luck to struggling dairy farmers.

“We’are already planning a sightseeing trip around Australia,” they said.

The division one winning System 8 marked entry was purchased from newsXpress Kerang on Saturday morning and sold by employee, Meg Cooke.

This is the second time within six months that division one has been sold at the Scoresby Street business.

Owners, Mandy and Steve Holdstock said they were overjoyed that Lotto riches have returned to their outlet.

“We’re so thrilled to have sold another division one winning entry. After five years of no wins, this year the drought has well and truly broken,” Ms Holdstock said.

“It’s fantastic to see the win go to another local winner, and we wish them every happiness for the future.”

There were four entries that each won a first division prize of $1,014,584.29 in the TattsLotto draw.

There were another two winning Victorian entries purchased in Epping and Glen Waverley, and one winning entry in South Australia.

The winning numbers were 5, 20, 16, 41, 12 and 31 with the supplementary numbers 10 and 29.

A total $20 million is up for grabs in tonight’s Oz Lotto draw.
