HDFNL – Final quarter blowout

A 10-GOAL final quarter ended Heathcote District’s hopes of three consecutive AFL Victoria Community Championship wins.

The HDFNL side trailed Bellarine by 13 points at the final break, but could only watch on as the hosts kicked the final 10 goals of the match during the game between the 19th and 20th-ranked sides at Ocean Grove to go down by 80 points.

Up to three quarter-time little separated both teams, with the hosts leading by nine points at the first break and 25 points at half time.

The visitors rallied in the third quarter to cut the deficit to less than three goals, but had no answers in the final term.

Elmore’s Danny Brewster kicked three goals for the visitors, with Leitchville/Gunbower pair Tim Lincoln (two) and Jackson McEwen (one) also registering goals.

North Bendigo ruckman, Brett Strange was best on ground for Heathcote District.

The loss dropped the HDFNL to 21st in the 38-league rankings, with a match against Geelong and District looming in 2017.
