CMFNL – Strong league squad

THE Central Murray Football Netball League’s goal to break a five-match AFL Victoria Community Championships losing streak has intensified.

The league announced its 51-player squad last week, set to be reduced to 22 by May 21 for the competition’s match against the North Central Football League, occurring at the Swan Hill Showgrounds.

Four-time reigning premiers, Kerang and 2015 grand finalists, Koondrook/Barham dominate the squad, having eight players each.

Interleague coach, Troy Coates headlines Kerang’s nominees, which include Blues co-coach, Travis Matheson and Bradlee Pay – who won the AFL Victoria Country Medal in last season’s grand final.

The Raiders’ nominees include Jake Hare, Tom Lamb and Rhett Sutton, who played for the Nepean Football League against the CMFNL in 2014.

The Cohuna Kangas have three nominations, with Rhys Bradley, Rhys Free and Harrison Keely in line for the squad.

There is plenty of top-flight experience in the squad, with former AFL players Lawrence Angwin (Balranald), Matt Campbell (Nyah-Nyah West United), Troy Davis (Kerang) and Tobias Thoolen (Swan Hill) listed.

All squad members will attend a training session at Alan Garden Reserve on Wednesday, April 27 at 6pm.

The side will be cut to 30 players prior to a recovery session occurring at Riverside Park, Kerang on Sunday, May 8 at 10am.

The final 22-player team will be announced at the final training session, occurring on Thursday, May 19 at the Swan Hill Showgrounds.
