LEITCHVILLE/GUNBOWER will make the trip to Lockington tomorrow knowing last season’s grand finalists need a win now that their Heathcote District Football Netball League draw has opened up.
The Bombers have lost to last year’s reigning premiers, North Bendigo and preliminary finalists, Colbinabbin in consecutive weeks, leaving the side sixth on the ladder.
Tomorrow’s match against Lockington Bamawm United will be the best chance Matt Hawken’s men have to record the club’s first win of the season, with games to follow against the winless White Hills at home and the undefeated Mount Pleasant at Toolleen.
Leitchville/Gunbower challenged the Grasshoppers in last weekend’s game, before capitulating in the second half to go down by 41 points.
It was a tougher day for the Cats, who lost to Huntly by 125 points after allowing more than six goals to be scored against them in each quarter.
Huntly’s defenders were able to keep Matt Bongiovanni quiet last weekend, and Hoby Bussey and Jackson McEwen are set to repeat this role tomorrow.
If Matt Perri, Adam Decicco and Daniel Coates have a day out in front of goal, the result could be what Hawken’s men need to kick-start their premiership campaign.
The Bombers hold a 3-3 record against the Cats in the past two seasons, including consecutive wins in 2015. This will become 4-3 in Leitchville/Gunbower’s favour tomorrow.
